Discus Zen™ Cordless Prophy

The ZEN™ cordless Prophy eliminates the restrictions of traditional, corded dental polishers by featuring a cordless hand-piece and a battery-powered wireless foot pedal.

Challenge:

Discus Zen (acquired by Philips) came to Ximedica in need of an engineering solution for its prophy having worked with an industrial design firm to finalize the design of the shell.

Solution:

Ximedica employed its mechanical, electrical and software engineering teams to find an implementable solution that would meet all product specifications and fit within the predetermined shape of the shell.

Results:

Ximedica successfully converted the selected industrial design concept into a specified and fully tested solution.

Given the tightly constrained envelope the engineering team was forced to work within they came up with innovative solutions that included:

  • A U-shaped circuit board-to meet the tight spatial constraints
  • The application of new technology such as blue tooth and inductive charging ahead of its time
  • Using a high end brushless DC gear motor that could deliver more torque and speed

Wherever you are in your process, Ximedica can help.
