Ximedica participates in Introduce A Girl to Engineering Day

March 18, 2010

Ximedica recently hosted 27 students from Lincoln School in Providence, RI in honor of “Introduce A Girl to Engineering Day” held on Feb. 18th.  Lincoln School is an independent college preparatory school for girls; with kindergarten through Grade 12 and a 125 year history of providing the highest quality education for young women.

The students were treated to lunch while a cross-functional group of 12 women from Ximedica gave an overview of the product development process.  They then participated in a brain-storming session with Research & Product Strategist, an industrial design sketching exercise with a Human Factors Industrial Designer, took part in a product testing station with a Mechanical Engineer and an Electrical Engineer, conducted tolerance testing and validation with a Design Assurance Engineer, and walked the manufacturing floor and isolated product issues with a Manufacturing Engineer.

The girls and staff were very excited about this event and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to host such a bright, inquisitive, and confident bunch of young women.  The Ximedica employees thoroughly enjoyed sharing their experiences, educational background and professional enthusiasm with the students and hope that this is the start of an annual event.
