CoheraAccelerating recovery times and reducing complications for abdominoplasty patients
Ximedica served as a turn-key development partner, designing and launching a novel bioadhesive delivery device from concept through to Class III manufacturing.
Abdominoplasty procedures are often associated with lengthy recovery processes, high risk of infection and overall discomfort. Most of these complications are due to postoperative surgical drains, which can require additional invasive treatments and frequent maintenance.
Cohera Medical’s surgical adhesive TissuGlu® is the first high strength synthetic adhesive approved for internal use. TissuGlu® is a biocompatible, resorbable adhesive that requires no mixing or thawing and can be used to bond tissue layers, which reduces dead spaces in the post-surgical wound, thus eliminating the need for drains. In its pre-polymerized form, TissuGlu® is a viscous liquid which is applied dropwise to the tissue surfaces. The tissue surfaces are placed in position for several minutes to allow the moisture in the tissue to initiate the curing process. The curing process proceeds over a period of approximately 30-45 minutes while other steps in the surgical closure procedure are completed. After a period of healing, the TissuGlu® material is reabsorbed into the body. Cohera needed to focus internal efforts on developing their core technology and outsourced the applicator design component to Ximedica.
Cohera partnered with Ximedica for tenured experience in:
- Full Process Development, from Concept to Commercialization
- Human-Centric Design
- Class III design and development
