Development Director

Ximedica provides expert research, product development, regulatory, and advanced manufacturing services to leading medical and healthcare companies. We help our clients create and sustain profitable new business by developing user-focused new products and getting them to market successfully. Ximedica participates in the entire development process from initial design exploration to supply of finished goods.  Our core competencies include mechanical and electronic design as well as firmware and software implementation.  In addition, Ximedica offers design control, compliance-related documentation tracking and offshore sourcing of components and subassemblies.

Position:  The Development Director is responsible for managing and growing key client and employee relationships from our newly opened Minneapolis office and ensuring their long-term value to the organization.

Nature of Role:  Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Development Director is a leadership position with regional operational responsibilities.  He/She will manage Ximedica’s Minneapolis office, client programs and the development staff.

Requirements:  A Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering complemented by 15+ years of progressive leadership and management experience within the Human Factors, Consumer Healthcare, and Medical Device industry. 

Responsibilities:  The Development Director demonstrates expertise and holds responsibilities in the following key areas:

Leadership

  • Demonstrates passion and enthusiasm for Ximedica’s vision – and motivates, leads, and empowers others to achieve organizational goals
  • Inspires and leads others to high levels of performance
  • Demonstrates an intellectual and professional leadership style that supports the attainment of respect and credibility of others
  • Builds and maintains a high performance culture through effective performance management, communication and coaching of staff
  • Provides clear leadership and promotes and fosters a team culture consistent with organizational values
  • Ensures the recruitment of appropriately skilled staff to positions, and the appropriate performance guidelines for their success

Business Development

  • Initiates, manages, and develops long term client relationships
  • Ensures client satisfaction and repeat business
  • Identifies and converts new opportunities within client organizations
  • Ensures clients use Ximedica’s diverse capabilities to their fullest extent
  • Manages program profitability and drives growth in client relationships
  • Works consultatively with clients to scope programs, recommend the best approach, and develop compelling proposals
  • Champions the company’s abilities and strategic differentiation
  • Identifies new client leads through referrals, active networking, and other activities


Program Management

  • Client and team management responsibility including overall client satisfaction, profitability, etc.
  • Offers sound program management skills, including task scheduling and budget tracking and resourcing
  • Organizes and communicates high-level presentations to clients, clinicians, and participating teams as necessary
  • Directs and manages resources, makes decisions, solves problems, and exercises good judgment and flexibility
  • Ensures Ximedica is meeting the needs of the client and that the devices will be successful in the marketplace


Engineering Management

  • Advises on the appropriate FDA, QSR, and ISO regulations:  design controls, document controls, design verification and validation, hazard analysis techniques, regulatory approval methods, and overall medical device industry controls
  • Manages the design and development of complex electro-mechanical medical devices and equipment
  • Encourages and advises the formulation of product ideas and concepts to mechanical development while ensuring proper scheduling, process, and on-time delivery for product introduction
  • Motivates, mentors, and coaches to ensure the teams maintain a high level of engineering and creative excellence
  • Establishes departmental best practices – including brain storming and technical problem solving
  • Establishes and manages a means to stay abreast of new technology, processes, and tools; implements technologies wherever logistically and financially feasible
  • Establishes and disseminates explicit roles and responsibilities as well as establishes accountability requirements
  • Conducts performance reviews and develops individual employee improvement plans
  • Participates in the ‘on-boarding’ of new employees
  • Educates new and existing employees on the roles and responsibilities of other departments and the entire development process
  • Identifies departmental training, facility, and resource needs regularly
  • Establishes and manages a departmental budget
  • Establishes and manages departmental metrics, including efficiency and continuous improvement
