With all the talk that’s going on about H1N1, I thought David McCandless did a great job of putting the threat into perspective.

Zach, thanks so much for posting that. I\'ve been discussing the idea of creating graph videos with some of the engineers. Since often the data is incredibly complex and layered it makes sense to show it in the same way. Motion Charts, which are shown on the link you gave, look like a great starting point for what I\'m trying to do.

These images reminded of a FREE online application developed by Hans Rosling (www.gapminder.org). This program takes huge amounts of raw data, and presents it in a really innovative and surprisingly simple fashion.

In his lectures, he is able to demonstrate how a single image can unveil complex relationships/trends/patterns/etc. and often ends up drawing dramatic conclusions, many times about the global healthcare landscape.

His work emphasizes the importance of the tools and methods we use to communicate complex data. He shows that it is possible to both maximize content while minimizing complexity - and taking the effort to do so can greatly increase the relevance of a data set.
