XIMEDICA NAMES ANITA KESTIN AS STAFF MEDICAL DIRECTOR

June 8, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 8, 2010, Providence, RI – Ximedica has announced the appointment of Anita Kestin, MD, MPH to the role of staff Medical Director. Dr. Kestin joins Ximedica following a distinguished 25 year career as a clinician and researcher in Hematology/Oncology at Rhode Island Hospital, Medical Center of Central Massachusetts, and Massachusetts General Hospital. She also has both academic and applied experience in patient safety and quality improvement in hospitals. In her new role, Dr. Kestin will draw upon her combined expertise to influence Ximedica’s work with medical device companies as well as healthcare providers.

Ximedica provides contract research, product development, and manufacturing services to medical device makers around the globe. The company also recently launched its Human Centered Health Services program, which applies human factors research and systems design to assist hospitals in solving critical safety and quality challenges. Kestin’s unique background will be a valuable addition to Ximedica’s clients in both segments of the industry.

“We are excited to add Dr. Kestin to Ximedica’s leadership team. She brings a critical perspective and firsthand experience to our Human Centered Health Services initiative.  She will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our work in this area is not only innovative, but also aligned with the practical considerations and needs of the clinical staff,” said Aidan Petrie, co-founder of Ximedica and Chief Innovation Officer.   “In addition, Anita’s depth of experience as a clinician and researcher lends a critical viewpoint to our device development work. Throughout the design process, from understanding clinical needs to final validation and regulatory submissions—and in some cases, managing clinical trials—having Anita on our staff will provide an invaluable resource to our clients.”

Dr. Kestin received her medical training at Brown University and completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.  She also has an MPH degree from Brown University with a focus on Patient Safety and Quality. Most recently Dr. Kestin has been an attending physician in Hematology/Oncology at Rhode Island Hospital and a Patient Safety Fellow.  As an in-house advisor to product development and the health services projects, she brings a wealth of in-hospital clinical experience and knowledge to Ximedica.

“Ximedica is engaged in ground-breaking projects designed to improve patient safety and health care delivery.  I am thrilled to be working with a team of people who are doing such exciting, innovative work.  Because I have seen the human cost of medical errors in patient safety, I am pleased that patient safety is now in the spotlight and I am enthusiastic about helping to create better and safer ways to deliver medical care,” Dr. Kestin commented.
