HFID / Industrial Designer

This is an opportunity to be part of the Human Factor Industrial Design function for one of the most innovative and advanced medical device manufacturing companies in the business. We are experiencing tremendous growth, even during a down market and are looking to build the design team via this addition to the staff.

 

Position: The HFID / Industrial Designer is responsible for representing the user to deliver thoughtful design solutions. You will be a part of a cross functional development team considering all aspects of development to move designs thru a phased gate process towards production. You will partner with engineering and research to develop products and devices from concept thru to production.

 

Nature of Role: Reporting to the Chief Innovation Officer and working under the guidance of one or more Project Managers, this individual will conceptualize and execute design direction in accordance with client and development team goals. Duties include concept generation, mechanical design, creating renderings, control drawings and/or models as necessary. The ideal candidate is an innovative, creative, well-organized self-starter.

We are looking for a hands-on designer that is willing to roll up their sleeves and deliver compelling design solutions. Ximedica’s focus is on evidence based design; we use research to inform and fuel the design team and focus on human factors and manufacturing to deliver holistic product/service designs.

 

Minimum Qualifications: A background in Industrial Design, 3 to 7 years experience with a great design hand, outstanding ability in product ideation / creation. Consumer product experience required; healthcare or medical device work a plus. The following key attributes are also required:

  • BFA or BSID in Industrial design
  • Passion for delivering meaningful experiences with design
  • Strong sketching skills; including rapid fire brainstorm sketching
  • Working knowledge of human factors and ergonomics methodology
  • Ability to communicate visually (thru sketches and quick models)
  • Ability to develop client presentations; including capturing the design development process
  • Solid graphic skills
  • Ask good questions to inform the design process, good problem solver
  • Mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of basic mechanisms
  • Working knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes especially injection-molded plastics
  • 3D Surfacing a rendering skills, Solidworks a plus
  • Able to pitch your design solutions during internal reviews
  • Strong organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Design research experience a plus
