Envisioning the resuscitation bay of the futureThere are more than 1,300 trauma centers in the US serving more than 2 million critical care patients annually. In a world where seconds count, the complex interplay of staff, equipment, and supplies can determine outcomes. Today's resuscitation bays are outfitted with a vast assortment of equipment and supplies, with inconsistent implementation and limited integration. In short, a prime opportunity for innovative systems thinking and design to improve workflow, develop standards, and improve patient care.Ximedica partnered with the Business Innovation Factory, The University Emergency Medicine Foundation, Brown University, and Lifespan to envision a trauma bay design that would standardize and optimize delivery of care. The Ximedica team applied intense research and human factors studies to discover key insights for breakthrough improvement—then took a systems design approach to concepting new products, standards, integration and communications protocols. The Resuscitation Bay of the Future is now being used as a spring board for efforts to create national standards for resuscitation bay configuration as well as further research and development activities. < back |
